De Molenwiek offers education in Dutch language and culture (Nederlandse Taal en Cultuur, or NTC) to preschool and elementary children between the ages of 2 and 14. De Molenwiek provides Dutch reading and writing lessons, teaches children about Dutch culture, and organizes cultural activities for the whole family. Classes meet weekly for 21⁄2 hours and are taught by teachers qualified by the Dutch Ministry of Education in The Hague.
Students are divided into three groups according to the Dutch school system: the "peuters,"
ages 2-4. the "kleuters," ages 4-6. groups 3 through 8, ages 6-14.
All groups are led by a qualified teacher and (if necessary) a teachers aid. In
the "peuter" group, we strive for one teacher or aid per 5 children. The "kleuter" groups and groups 3-8 have a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 12 students.
Because our NTC-education is a supplement to the American school system, de Molenwieks hours are limited to after regular school times. Furthermore, children come to de Molenwiek from different schools; to limit travel times and distances, de Molenwiek has a number of locations throughout the greater Atlanta area.
